Spectral irradiance
Radiation spectrum

The infrared ray is considered to extend from 0.75 to 1000microm. The human body or any objects emit the infrared light, and its spectral irradiance depends on their temperature.

The radiative energy detected by infrared sensors
Radiation spectrum

The spectral power detected by an infrared sensor can be defined by the difference between the emission power from the object and the sensor. For example, in the case of the object is the black-body at 36°C, and the sensor is at 25°C. The infrared sensor can detect the spectral power shown as green line in the graph shown right.
