8ch/6ch High Performance 216kHz Asynchronous SRC

Tokyo Japan, May 26, 2010-Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) today launched the AK4128 and AK4129, high performance 216kHz 24-bit asynchronous sample rate converters (SRC’s). AKM is a major provider of high performance SRC’s for various audio applications. AKM introduced the industry’s first multi-channel SRC, the AK4126, which has been widely deployed in successful designs. The new AK4128 is an 8-channel device, making it ideal for 7.1 channel systems, including Blu-ray, Dolby Digital Plus (DD+). and Dolby TrueHD. The AK4128 integrates new features, including a crystal oscillator circuit, master clock output, and TDM interface mode. Simultaneous inputs of asynchronous stereo data are supported, allowing a flexible interface to digital sources operating at differing sample rates. Additionally, a cost saving version 6-channel version, the AK4129, is also available.

The AK4128 and AK4129 achieve a dynamic range of 140dB and virtually degradation-free conversion of the sampling rate between various linear PCM formats, from DVD to Blu-ray discs. The integrated oscillator circuit generates a clock for internal operation, eliminating the need for an external master clock. This enables the AK4128 to work in systems that do not provide a master clock, as well as reducing EMI by operating in master clock free mode.  The devices can be controlled either by setting pins or through I2C microcontroller control. The AK4128 and AK4129 are pin compatible devices with the AK4126, enabling easy system upgrades using the same footprint. Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
