| 3.3V Single-supply audio DAC with charge pump features ground-referenced 2Vrms outputs | |
| Tokyo Japan, July 7 2010, Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) today launched the AK4430, a single-supply stereo audio DAC and a 2Vrms output buffer, enabled by an integrated charge pump. It is the newest product in the AKM Audio4home™ family, and it is ideal for consumer audio applications including set-top boxes, televisions, DVD/BD players and recorders, and A/V receivers. The new device is near pin-compatible with the AK4420 and the AK4424 that have been widely used in a variety of consumer audio applications. The AK4430 has an improved architecture that provides high PSRR characteristics, reducing noise from the power supply and simplifying system design at a reduced cost. The AK4430 operates of a +3.3V nominal power supply. The device contains an integrated charge pump, which supplies the negative rail for the output buffer. Since the output buffer operates off of an internal dual-rail supply, the output signal is ground-referenced, and audible pop noise is suppressed on power-up or when clocks are stopped. Eliminating the need for an external mute circuit. The output signal is ground-referenced 2Vrms, meeting consumer audio line level requirements and eliminating traditional coupling capacitors. The stereo audio DAC accepts 24-bit data at sampling rates up to 192kHz. A digital de-emphasis filter and soft mute circuit are integrated. An automatic power-on reset circuit eliminates the need to reset the DAC on power-up or when the clocks are stopped. The DAC includes a switched-capacitor filter (SCF), greatly improving audio performance in systems with high clock jitter. The output buffer features a continuous-time filter (CTF). With these two internal filters, only a simple first-order RC external filter is recommended. The AK4430 operates off of a 3.3V power supply. The AK4430 is available in a space-saving 16-pin TSSOP package. Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
