| High Performance 192kHz 24bit Audio CODEC |
| Tokyo Japan, Dec 21 2010, Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) today launched the AK4621, a high performance 192kHz 24-bit audio CODEC. This new device is an enhanced version of the AK4260B, which is widely used as a standard for professional and pro-sumer applications. The AK4621 is pin compatible with the AK4620B, enabling easy system updates using the same footprint. The ADC block of the AK4621 uses an enhanced dual-bit architecture and supports differential inputs, achieving -102dB THD+N and 115dB S/N. Both THD+N and S/N values are improved by 2dB when compared with the AK4620B. A new high performance digital filter is utilized, and another filter is also selectable depending upon application requirements. The DAC block of the AK4621 uses an advanced multi-bit architecture, achieving -100dB THD+N, an improvement of 3dB when compared with the AK4620B. A newly integrated digital filter realizes more realistic acoustic sounds, especially live sound; a feeling of direct listening to the sound source. Two other high performance digital filters are also available. The AK4621 has group delay of 7/fs. The sampling rate ranges to 216kHz. It is suitable for live performance applications and variable pitch controls. The integrated digital volume control, which ranges from 0dB to 72dB in linear steps, is able to provide 24dB more attenuation than the AK4620B. Offering industry-leading performance to power ratio, the AK4621 consumes just 203mW of power. The AK4621 is housed in a 30-pin VSOP package. Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
