Tokyo Japan, August 4 2011, Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) today launched the AK4709, a low power dual AV SCART switch. AKM is a long-term provider of AV-SCART switches that meet the European standard - the AK47xx series are already well-received in the market and are widely used in set-top-box (STB) systems. The AK4709 is the newest member of the Audio4home product family. The integrated audio driver supports ground referenced outputs, eliminating the need for large AC-coupling capacitors, reducing cost and saving board space.
The AK4709’s audio block accepts both single–ended and differential input from an external audio DAC. It is very flexible, having two built-in volume controls that range from -6dB to +12dB for gain control and from -+6B to -60dB for main volume control. The video block includes a clamp circuit, video filters, video switches and a 75-ohm video line driver, realizing a simple and low cost system architecture.
Similar to the other products in the AV-SCART switch family, the AK4709 features an automatic power-saving function that virtually eliminates the need for standby power when no video signals are present. When a video signal is input, the AK4709 automatically changes its status to loop-through mode to maintain low power consumption without external commands. The European SCART compatible Fast/Slow Blanking control function makes the AK4709 ideal for the full spectrum of European digital AV products. The AK4709 is housed in a 48-pin LQFP package.
