AK5373/4 Press Release
USB-bus Synchronized 24-bit Stereo ADC with USB Interface

Tokyo Japan, August 18, 2010, Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) today launched the AK5373 and the AK5374, a 24-bit 2-channel AD converter with USB interface. These new devices, next-generation versions of the widely-used AK5371A, include a microphone amplifier, digital volume control, USB serial interface engine, USB transceiver and audio class encoder/decoder. They are ideal for USB microphones, microphones for Karaoke, and USB audio interfaces.

An integrated PLL supports USB-bus synchronization and seven sampling frequencies from 8kHz to 48kHz. The AK5373/4 has a programmable gain amplifier and a bias power supply for microphones, enabling a direct connection to a microphone. These devices offer superior performance and customization, since all descriptors and internal register information can be stored to an external EEPROM. An integrated digital audio interface allows a direct connection to a high performance ADC or a DSP for audio or voice processing.

The AK5373/4 operates off of a 3.3V power supply. The power consumption is 100mW in active mode and less than 100µA in suspended mode. The AK5373 is available in a 48-pin LQFP package (0.5mm pitch) and the AK5374 is available in a 36-pin QFN package (0.4mm pitch). Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
