Tokyo Japan, Sep 30 2009, Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) today launched the AK7754, an audio digital signal processor (DSP) with a stereo 24-bit CODEC and a 24-bit sample rate converter (SRC) providing high quality sound for audio and hands-free voice applications. The AK7754 is a RAM-based DSP with an open core that can be programmed for a wide variety of user applications. In addition, a GUI-based programming tool is available.

AKM’s royalty-free high performance noise and echo cancellation algorithms are available for porting to the AK7754. The hands-free voice algorithm enables full-duplex telephone calls in high noise environments, such as an automobile. Voice guidance and traffic information of a car-navigation system can be implemented as a hands-free conversation by mixing the output function. Both echo and noise cancellation algorithms are included in the hands-free program. Parameters are fully tunable for a variety of operating conditions.

The audio DSP features 24-bit floating point arithmetic, and it has a parallel operation capability of 1536 steps/fs (at 48kHz sampling). An integrated large memory eliminates the need for external program memory. Programs are loaded into internal RAM via a serial interface from a microcontroller, allowing for seamless updates. For connecting to other audio devices such as Baseband, ACPU and Bluetooth modules, asynchronous serial interfaces connected to an integrated SRC support MSB-first, LSB-first, I²S and PCM audio data formats.

The AK7754 integrates a stereo 24-bit CODEC, a differential input microphone amplifier, and a headphone amplifier with a volume control. It operates off of a 3.3V and 1.8V power supplies. The operating temperature ranges from -20ºC to 85ºC. The AK7754 is housed in a small 48-pin QFN package. It can be programmed for audio processing for surround systems in addition to high performance noise and echo cancellation processing for hands-free functions.
