Asahi Kasei
Corporation has developed a new series of transparent styrenic
resin as part of the continuing expansion and growth of its
synthetic rubber and elastomer operations, positioned as a key
competitive superiority segment of the corporate business portfolio.
The Asaflex i-series is the latest product resulting from Asahi
Kasei's concerted effort to develop materials which will enable
greater resource and energy conservation.
Asaflex transparent styrenic resin
With outstanding transparency and impact resistance, Asaflex
is used in a wide range of sheets, films, and injection moldings.
In Japan and worldwide, demand growth for Asaflex is especially
strong for use as shrink film for PET bottle labels and blister
packs for electronic products. The difference in specific
gravity between Asaflex and PET makes it particularly suited
for use as shrink film labels for PET bottles, enabling the
label and bottle materials to be easily separated for efficient
recycling.
The new Asaflex i-series
The Asaflex i-series has a unique new copolymer molecular
structure, made by a proprietary production process developed
by Asahi Kasei. The new polymer configuration results in heat
stability and processability which excel the performance obtained
with conventional Asaflex.
With conventional Asaflex, suppression of
gelation due to thermal history is limited, and there was
a strong desire among users to mitigate gel/fisheye defects
in sheet and film applications. Asahi Kasei laboratory tests
indicate that gelation is practically eliminated when using
the Asaflex i-series under conventional process conditions.
Further, the superior heat resistance of the Asaflex i-series
makes it possible to raise processing temperature by 10-20°C,
enabling significant cost savings by shortening cycle times.
