Onward and Asahi Kasei hold
Japan Quality Collaboration in Shanghai
autumn & winter 2004 fashion show

Onward Kashiyama Co., Ltd. and Asahi Kasei Fibers Corp. are holding a joint fashion show, Japan Quality Collaboration in Shanghai, this afternoon in Shanghai, China, for autumn and winter 2004 apparel.

In addition to China's established position as a major center for clothing production, substantial consumer markets for fashionable apparel are emerging, most notably in the coastal urban centers. Shanghai in particular is developing into China's center for fashion design and the gateway for world fashions entering China.

Today's joint fashion show will promote the NijyusankuT and ICBT apparel brands of Onward Kashiyama in the Chinese market, and raise the profile of the BembergT brand of Asahi Kasei Fibers for high-quality lining material.

Chinese operations of Onward Kashiyama include Shanghai Onward Fashion Co., Ltd., established in 1995 for the production and export of apparel, and Onward Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., established in 2001 for retail sale. With sales centered on the Nijyusanku™ and ICB™ brands of women's apparel, the company has 38 stores in 14 Chinese cities, scheduled to grow to 51 stores by the end of the year. Today's event will showcase the latest autumn and winter collections of Nijyusanku™ and ICB™ apparel to the management and purchasing personnel of retailers and boutiques, expanding on the established reputation for these brands in China.

Exhibits at the show will also present Onward Kashiyama's corporate profile, global fashion network, Asian strategy, and business plans for the coming ten years, to enable attendees to gain a fuller understanding of the company and its operations.

As part of a campaign to raise its profile in the Chinese market, Asahi Kasei Fibers held a swimwear fashion show on May 8 and 9 at the Mei Long Zhen Plaza in Shanghai, where the lead models of Asahi Kasei Fibers for 2004 made their debut. Featuring Bemberg™ linings, the Nijyusanku™ and ICB™ apparel shown today will raise awareness in the Chinese market of the exceptional properties of Bemberg™. Bemberg™ is renowned throughout the world as the material of choice for high-quality linings.

Exhibits at the show will also present the qualities of Bemberg™ which make it an outstanding material not only for linings, but for a range of uses including outerwear, innerwear, bedclothing, sportswear, and casual wear. The expanding operations of Asahi Kasei Fibers in China include Hangzhou Asahikasei Textiles Co., Ltd. for the knitting and dyeing of Roica™ elastic polyurethane, Hangzhou Asahikasei Spandex Co., Ltd. for the spinning of Roica™ filament, and Kyokuyo International Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Asahi Kasei AGMS Corp. Ltd. also has substantial and growing business in China for its computerized grading, marking, and pattern-making systems.
