Organizational realignment of electronics operations

Effective April 1, 2007, the research, development, marketing, and sales functions of Asahi Kasei EMD's wholly owned subsidiaries Asahi-Schwebel (AS), Asahi Kasei Electronics (AKE), and Asahi Kasei Microsystems (AKM) will be transferred to Asahi Kasei EMD (AKEMD).

The seamless integration of these functions under unified management will enable swifter, more market-oriented product development and closer, more precise response to customer needs for quality and performance throughout each segment of the market for electronic materials and electronic devices. AS, AKE, and AKM will continue to perform production of their respective product lines as subsidiaries of AKEMD.

The electronics business sector is marked for strategic expansion in the Asahi Kasei Group's Growth Action – 2010 business plan. In electronic materials, established businesses are being expanded with higher added value and development of new applications. In electronic devices, the mixed-signal LSI business is being expanded and the sensor/LSI hybrid device business is being developed and advanced. The reorganization announced today will facilitate these developments as AKEMD performs a key role in effecting growth for the Asahi Kasei Group.
