Establishment of subsidiary in Taiwan for sale of pellicles

Asahi Kasei EMD has established a subsidiary in Taiwan for the sale of photomask pellicles, with operation to begin in September 2006. The new company, Asahi Kasei EMD Taiwan Corp., will obtain pellicles from Asahi Kasei EMD and maintain inventory in Taiwan, enabling swift fulfillment of purchase orders and obviating the need for Taiwanese customers to maintain their own inventories of pellicles.

Used in the production of LCD panels and semiconductors, pellicles prevent the adherence of dust on photomasks which could cause defects in the photolithographic exposure process. Taiwan is one of the world's main markets for pellicles, with particularly strong demand growth in LCD panel applications. Asahi Kasei EMD is a leading pellicle supplier and the world's only maker of pellicles for the largest LCD panels.

In 2002, Asahi Kasei EMD established a pellicle sales subsidiary in Korea, another key market for pellicles, especially those for LCD applications. A new pellicle plant was brought on line in May 2004 to meet growing demand for large pellicles, and a second production line for large pellicles was completed at this plant in March 2005. Integration of pellicles production was completed in February 2006 with the transfer to the new plant of equipment to produce pellicles for semiconductor applications.
