Announcement of cancellation of treasury stock
 
The Board of Directors of Asahi Kasei Corp. has today adopted a resolution for the cancellation of shares of treasury stock pursuant to Article 178 of the Corporation Law, to be implemented as follows:

Type of shares to be canceled: Common stock.
Number of shares to be canceled: 40,000,000 (2.77% of issued shares prior to cancellation).
Dated scheduled for cancellation: February 28, 2007.

Note: The number of issued shares subsequent to cancellation will be 1,402,616,332.
