New subsidiary to serve as regional headquarters in China
 
Asahi Kasei Corp. has established Asahi Kasei Business Management (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (BMS) to serve as a regional headquarters for Asahi Kasei Group operations in China. BMS, which will begin operation on April 1, 2007, is incorporated under Shanghai municipal regulatory provisions which enable a foreign-owned regional headquarters to perform business management operations without first functioning as a holding company for investments in China.

At present, more than ten Asahi Kasei Group companies are located in China, with operations largely centered on manufacturing for export. The growth of operations in China will be a key element in the Asahi Kasei Group's Growth Action – 2010 initiative for strategic global expansion, and BMS will play a vital role in facilitating this growth.

BMS will provide services on consignment to Asahi Kasei and its core operating companies to support the advancement and growth of group companies in China and the development of new businesses in China. This will entail the performance of a wide range of functions, including the provision of an information infrastructure for operations in China, the development of global management talent, centralized support for procedures related to the establishment of new companies in China, and pre-marketing investigation and trial marketing for new products for the Chinese market.
