Effect of the Great East Japan Earthquake on the Asahi Kasei Group
(3rd announcement)

The Asahi Kasei Group expresses its sincere sympathy to all those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred on March 11, 2011. It is our genuine hope that the afflicted areas will be restored and revitalized as soon as possible.

As a follow-up on our announcements of March 14 and March 23, 2011, regarding the effect of this earthquake on the Asahi Kasei Group, we hereby provide notification of the current outlook for resumption of operation at plants which were damaged.

1. Outlook for restart of plants whose operation is suspended

1) Asahi Kasei Power Devices Corp. Ishinomaki Plant (Miyagi Prefecture)

The Ishinomaki Plant manufactures power management semiconductors. Operation was halted as power and water supplies were cut off due to the earthquake. The building interior and manufacturing equipment were partially damaged.

Inspection and repair of manufacturing equipment have progressed, and we are now forecasting a partial resumption of operation on April 5, 2011. Following this, we are scheduled to successively expand the scope of operation. There is a possibility that operation may be affected by instability in the supply of power, production materials, etc., as well as logistics services in the area.

Note: Asahi Kasei Toko Power Devices Corp. was renamed Asahi Kasei Power Devices Corp. on April 1, 2011.

2) Asahi Kasei Construction Materials Corp. Sakai Plant (Ibaraki Prefecture)

The Sakai Plant manufactures autoclaved aerated concrete panels. Operation was halted as power supply was cut off due to the earthquake. Product inventory, buildings, and manufacturing equipment were partially damaged.

Inspection and repair of manufacturing equipment have progressed, and we are now forecasting resumption of operation in successive stages beginning in mid-April 2011. There is a possibility that operation may be affected by instability in the supply of power, production materials, fuel, etc.

3) Asahi Kasei Construction Materials Corp. Neoma Foam Plant (Ibaraki Prefecture)

The Neoma Foam Plant manufactures phenolic foam insulation panels. Operation was halted as power supply was cut off due to the earthquake. Product inventory, buildings, and manufacturing equipment were partially damaged.

Inspection and repair of manufacturing equipment have progressed, and we are now forecasting resumption of operation in successive stages beginning in late April 2011. There is a possibility that operation may be affected by instability in the supply of power, production materials, fuel, etc.

4) Asahi Kasei Metals Ltd. Tomobe Plant (Ibaraki Prefecture)

The Tomobe Plant manufactures aluminum paste as a coating material. Tanks and manufacturing equipment were partially damaged due to the earthquake.

Inspection and repair of manufacturing equipment have progressed, and we are now forecasting resumption of operation in two to three months time.

2. Impact on financial performance

The impact of this earthquake on consolidated financial results of the Asahi Kasei Group is unclear at this time. An announcement will be made promptly in the event that a material impact is anticipated.
