April 14, 2011
Asahi Kasei Corporation

The Asahi Kasei Group expresses its sincere sympathy to all those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. It is our genuine hope that the afflicted areas will be restored and revitalized as soon as possible.

As a follow-up on our announcement of April 1, 2011, regarding the outlook for resumption of operation at plants which were damaged, we hereby provide notification of their current status.

1. Current status of the plants

1) Asahi Kasei Power Devices Corp. Ishinomaki Plant (Miyagi Prefecture)

The Ishinomaki Plant resumed partial operation on April 5. However, operation was suspended as power and water supplies were cut off due to a strong aftershock which occurred off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture on the night of April 7. Repair work continued, and the plant has been back in partial operation since April 11.

2) Asahi Kasei Construction Materials Corp. Sakai Plant (Ibaraki Prefecture)

Repair of manufacturing equipment was completed, and production of autoclaved aerated concrete panels has resumed. There is a possibility that operation may be affected by aftershocks and instability in the supply of production materials, etc.

3) Asahi Kasei Construction Materials Corp. Neoma Foam Plant (Ibaraki Prefecture)

Production of phenolic foam insulation panels partially resumed on April 11, and is scheduled to return to normal in late April. There is a possibility that operation may be affected by aftershocks and instability in the supply of production materials, etc.

4) Asahi Kasei Metals Ltd. Tomobe Plant (Ibaraki Prefecture)

Repair work has been progressing on tanks and manufacturing equipment which were partially damaged due to the earthquake. We are currently working toward partial resumption of operation in mid-May and full operation in mid-June. There is a possibility that operation may be affected by aftershocks and instability in the supply of production materials, etc.

2. Impact on financial performance

The impact of this earthquake on fiscal 2010 consolidated financial results of the Asahi Kasei Group is currently under investigation, and we will promptly make an announcement as necessary.
