Core technologies & business development

The Asahi Kasei Group’s strength lies in the utilization of a diverse variety of business models based on its wide range of innovative technologies. With a foundation in chemical technology, we have established our many core technologies through broad technological combinations throughout our history of business diversification.

Catalyst and process technology is indispensable for the manufacture of various materials, and thin-film semiconductor manufacturing technology, derived from technology cultivated in the chemical industry, sustains our electronics business. Our technology has also enabled us to create many high-value added products, such as artificial kidneys (hemodialyzers), which combine hollow-fiber membrane technology with biotechnology, and LSIs which control sound and light in mobile phones.

Based on the two perspectives of “living in health and comfort” and “harmony with the natural environment,” the Asahi Kasei Group will continue to create new things for the future to achieve our Group Mission of contributing to life and living for people around the world.

History of growth by diversification

Since its establishment, the Asahi Kasei Group has repeatedly combined established technologies with new ones, creating new core technologies and businesses before established businesses reach maturity—which is our basic strategy for diversification and the configuration that has sustained our continuous growth. Through the combination of our core technologies and businesses with those newly acquired or established, we continue to heighten corporate value and increase brand strength in a new phase of growth.
