The electronic compass, an advanced product which combines magnetic sensors and LSIs in a single device, finds widespread use in smartphones and other portable devices.
Hall elements are high-performance magnetic sensors used for control of brushless motors in optical disc drives and air conditioner fans, as well as for digital camera image-stabilization mechanisms and many other areas. Hall ICs, comprising a combination of Hall elements and signal processing circuits, are used for mobile phone open/close detection switches, pointer control devices, and automobile power windows.
Fine-pattern coils comprise precise, narrow, yet high-profile copper conductor patterns formed on flat substrates using our unique precision lithography and plating technology. Taking the place of wound wire to enable thinner and smaller electric motors, they are tailored to meet individual customer requirements. Applications are expanding to include image-stabilization mechanisms of digital still cameras and digital video cameras.
This business includes environmentally friendly, high-performance materials for energy, such as the Hipore™ lithium-ion rechargeable battery (LIB) separator. A flat microporous sheet of polyolefin, Hipore™ is the world’s leading separator membrane for LIBs used in cell phones, laptop PCs, and other electronic applications. Available pore sizes range from 0.05 µm to 0.5 µm. Demand is forecasted to increase notably in electric vehicle applications.
