Spandex-The
Essentilals
Spandex is known by various names. in the context of
product quality regulation in Japan.
It is referred to as polyurethane. in many countries in
Europe, it is commonly known as elastane fiber, which
shares its word origins with the term"elastic".
Like rubber, spandex is an elastic material. It is in
fact more elastic than rubber, and several times higher
in tensile strenght. It is also lighter in weight.
Spandex can be produced in extremely fine to coarse
deniers that are difficult or impossible for rubber. The
three basic categories of spandex production are dry
spinning, wet spinning, and melt spinning.
Dry spinning is the most widely used, and is the production

Spandex is a highly versatile fiber. It can be readily
blended with either synthetic or natural fibers, ranging
from nylon and polyester to cotton and wool, to obtain
fabrics and apparel with outstanding function and quality.
The
fields of spandex applications are broad and growing.
Main applications today are : innerwear,
outerwear, sportswear, other apparel,
hosiery, shoesoles, upholsteries, medical
supporters, tapes and gauzes. |
