The most important task for managing operational safety is to prevent accidents at plants by designing and building highly safe plants and maintaining the sound function of facilities and processes. The Asahi Kasei Group’s effort to prevent fires, explosions, and leaks of hazardous substances includes risk assessments and process reviews based on the age of facilities and audits by experts on fire and explosion prevention. We also implement measures to ensure that swift and appropriate response is taken to contain and minimize any damage in the event that an accident or natural disaster occurs.

In our medical enterprises, we perform Responsible Care (RC) audits and apply RC policies and targets uniformly regardless of region or nation. At our plant in Hangzhou, China, we are attaining results by implementing the same production procedures as in Japan, including safety training for employees and risk management and training regarding plant facilities and processes.

Every autumn we hold RC Symposiums that bring everyone together to renew our commitment to safety. In fiscal 2010, 130 employees participated at the Oita plant; talks were given by the president of Asahi Kasei Kuraray Medical , the head of the employee union, and the holding company executive for the environment and safety, group activity reports were presented for the four plants, and recognition was awarded for outstanding safety slogans.
