AM-BIO is available with surface areas of 1.3m², 1.5m² and 2.0m² in a standard flux. AM-BIO-HX is available in surfaces areas ranging from 1.3m², 1.5m² and 2.0m² in the Mid-High flux range.

Improved biocompatibility of Asahi Biomembrane™

Asahi Biomembrane was engineered to reduce blood-membrane interaction. The blood side of the membrane surface is grafted with polymer chains using our unique "polymer-coupling" technology. The chains consist of hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) groups and hydrophobic alkyl groups. The chains undulate on the membrane surface, creating a diffuse layer. The diffuse layer physically prevents blood components from coming into direct contact with the underlying membrane surface, thereby reducing blood-membrane interaction.

In general, contact of blood with membranes causes reactions in the blood. With the Biomembrane, these reactions are drastically reduced, with the result that improved biocompatibility can be obtained.
