Asahi Kasei Kuraray Medical has raised overall dialyzer performance by combining its Polysulfone membrane REXBRANE with a new jacket design providing optimum flow dynamics. The inner surface incorporates Asahi’s unique hydrophilic gel layer technology, which minimizes blood-membrane interaction and plays a crucial role in anticoagulation requirements. These design elements together created the new REXEED dialyzers. REXEED-S is new single-use dialyzer available in the U.S. and Canada. REXEED-R is new multiple-use dialyzer available only in the U.S.

Improved anticoagulation
Incorporated on the inner surface is Asahi’s unique hydrophilic gel layer technology.
This minimizes blood membrane interaction and plays a crucial role in anti-coagulation
requirements. All has come together to create the new REXEED dialyzer.
Preserving the natural flow of blood components
In the images below, the hydrophilic gel layer on the REXBRANE membrane inner surface when wet is shown on the left. It appears softer than the other wet polysulfone inner surface shown on the right because the hydrophilic gel layer retains water molecules, one of the major characteristics of the REXBRANE membrane. REXBRANE is designed to cushion platelets and other blood components from activation caused by the blood-membrane interaction.

The vertical axis is shown on a much larger scale than the horizontal plane for easier comparison between the two types of inner surface.
Minimum heparin requirement
The soft inner surface of REXBRANE reduces the potential for platelet activation and protein adhesion to the membrane. Therefore, REXEED dialyzers usually require less heparin.

The improved flow dynamics of REXEED are enabled by Asahi’s new high-performance jacket design that yields a uniform dialysate flow. The waved fiber design in REXEED allows smooth blood flow and improved dialysate penetration into the center of the fiber bundle for ideal dialysate/fiber contact and small molecule clearance. The ideal flow pattern is shown as a symmetrical sharp peak, reflecting quick dialysate turnover leading to exceptional small molecule clearance rates.

Highest performance dialyzer in the USA and Canada.
Urea Clearance Comparison

A new level of overall performance
A unique characteristic of REXEED is the ability to remove urea, creatinine, and phosphate equally well, as demonstrated in the graph below. Exceptional phosphate clearance is seen when using the largest 2.5 m² surface area.
