The "Bazin Artisans Support Project 2025" Recognized as a TICAD9 Partner Project

On December 4, 2024, the "Bazin Artisans Support Project 2025," jointly implemented by Asahi Kasei Corporation, Brunello S.p.A., and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was officially recognized as a partner project for the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). This recognition underscores the international importance of the project and provides further opportunities for advancing its activities.











Project Overview
This project aims to enhance the sustainability of Bazin dyeing, a traditional industry in the Republic of Mali, through the following initiatives:
1.Workshops to identify challenges: Sharing the current state and issues of the Bazin industry locally.
2.Distribution of protective gear and supplies: Providing protective equipment to dyeing workers.
3.Awareness-raising activities: Producing and disseminating videos demonstrating the correct use and importance of protective gear.
4.Installation of water supply facilities: Establishing solar-powered water tanks.
5.Skill enhancement initiatives: Conducting training to improve communication and digital skills.
6.Health checkups: Performing non-clinical tests and consultations for 40 dyeing workers.

The TICAD9 Secretariat recognized the project for its efforts to address health and environmental challenges faced by local women working in the Bazin industry, while also contributing to strengthening Japan-Africa relations.

Purpose and Participants
The project seeks to promote the sustainability of the Bazin industry and solve social challenges in collaboration with local communities through the development of a new product, "BemBAZIN™."
•Asahi Kasei Corporation: Manufacturer of "Bemberg™" fibers used in BemBAZIN™.
•Brunello S.p.A.: Italian fabric manufacturer and seller of BemBAZIN™.
•UNDP: Provides operational support for the project.

This recognition serves as a milestone for Asahi Kasei to continue contributing to the support of Bazin artisans in Mali and advancing efforts toward a sustainable future.
