Asahi Kasei obtains “OK biodegradable MARINE” certification for Bemberg cupro fiber

OK biodegradable MARINE is a well-known certification issued by TÜV AUSTRIA BELGIUM NV/SA in Europe. The certification of Bemberg™ cupro fiber follows that of Bemliese™* continuous-filament cupro nonwoven, which obtained the year before last.
The biodegradability of Bemberg™ in soil had previously been verified by Asahi Kasei’s R&D Laboratory for Applied Product and the Italian certification organization INNOVHUB-SSI.The OK biodegradable MARINE certification verifies that Bemberg™ is also biodegradable even in the marine environment where there are fewer microorganisms to promote biodegradation, while also certifying the safety of Bemberg™ with respect to marine organisms.Bemberg™ is recognized as environmentally friendly material for several reasons. 1.The raw material is 100% cotton linter, a byproduct from cottonseed oil 2.The unique closed-loop system* by which it is manufactured 3.Use of renewable energy in its manufacture 4.Its superior biodegradability

Having obtained OK biodegradable MARINE certification for Bemberg™ continuous filament, Asahi Kasei will promote Bemberg™ as a material that can help solving the serious issue of marine microplastics from the perspective of the entire supply chain as well as finished garments.
