Company Profile

Since the mid-Edo period, Kameda-go, surrounded by the Shinano and Agano Rivers flowing through the Niigata Plain, used to be one of the wettest areas in Japan, called Ashinuma. People were immersed in water up to their waists and devoted themselves to farming. At that time, men and women of all ages in Kameda-go used to wear a cotton fabric called "Kameda-jima", which was durable and resistant to water and mud. It was durable and resistant to water and mud, and became popular throughout the country in the Taisho and early Showa eras. The Kameda-Jima was lost after World War II as the times changed, but in 2005, for the first time in half a century, we were able to restore the pattern from the "Jima Sample Book (Kameda-go Museum)" and show the world for the first time.
With its soft texture and stylish striped design, it has attracted attention not only from within the prefecture but also from overseas. In 2015, the company registered the Kameda-Jima brand as a regional collective trademark with the Japan Patent Office, and is working to increase awareness of the revived Kameda-Jima brand, as well as to develop and sell yarn-dyed fabrics of mixed composition for both domestic and overseas markets that combine staple and short fibers, with Bemberg™ as the main material.
