We can provide solutions to the following challenges
Our elastomer product range offers diverse functionalities, contributing to the addition and improvement of various functionalities required for your products. The following are examples of problem-solving using elastomer functionalities.
-
DampingDamping refers to the performance of converting vibration energy into heat energy and attenuating vibrations. Asahi Kasei's elastomers, which excel in damping properties, have a wide tanδ peak from low temperatures to around room temperature, allowing them to be used over a wide temperature range.
-
Filler FillingFillers are used for various reasons, such as imparting flame retardancy and reducing plastic consumption. When resin and filler are compounded, the flexibility decreases and the material becomes brittle. Asahi Kasei's elastomers maintain or impart flexibility while achieving high contect of fillers.
-
Crosslinkability"Crosslinking" is sometimes performed to improve the resilience and heat resistance of materials. Asahi Kasei leverages its unique selective hydrogenation technology to control the hydrogenation amount of butadiene units, enabling the development of elastomers with controllable crosslinking density.
-
Flowability and ProcessabilityInjection molding is widely adopted as a production method for plastic products. When molding large parts or parts with complex shapes, low material flowability can result in molding defects such as appearance defects and short shots. Asahi Kasei has successfully developed elastomers that achieve extremely high flowability while maintaining mechanical strength.
-
Adhesion to Different MaterialsAdhesion technology between materials with different properties is essential for developing multi-material products. It is generally difficult to bond low-polar olefin-based materials with polar materials. Asahi Kasei's elastomers have excellent affinity for both olefin-based materials and polar materials (polar resins, metals, etc.), making them suitable for consideration as adhesives for different materials.
-
Reactivity ControlAsahi Kasei's elastomers can control the amount of double bonds in hydrogenated butadiene units using our unique "selective hydrogenation" technology. This allows for control of crosslinking density and graft ratio through secondary processing. Furthermore, Asahi Kasei possesses a unique modification technology that attaches a single amino group to the end of the polymer chain, contributing to the addition of new functionalities by utilizing the reactivity of the terminal amine while specifying the reactive site of the elastomer molecule.
-
Impact Resistance (Low Temperature Properties)Impact resistance is an important function for enhancing the durability of final products. Many resins face challenges such as cracking in low temperature environments. Asahi Kasei's elastomers have a glass transition temperature that is extremely low, enabling improved impact resistance at low temperatures by incorporating them into resins.
