What is SOLCOMAT™?

SOLCOMAT™ is an innovative civil engineering material that Asahi Kasei has been developing since 1972 in order to slope protection & erosion control.
SOLCOMAT™ is formed by bonded unique-shaped concrete blocks on special filter cloth with adhesive. The special filter cloth is made of strong and durable synthetic fiber.
SOLCOMAT™ can be adjusted to any length at factory,which contributes to easy transportation & installation work.
SOLCOMAT™ is excellent in slope protection from erosion and laborsaving. In addition, it is a perfect choice for conservation of nature because plants can grow through the opening of filter cloth and concrete blocks.

FEATURES OF SOLCOMAT SYSTEM

1. Suitable for erosion control

It protects the surface of soil with combination of concrete blocks and filter cloth.


2. Excellent in water permeability

Water comes from the ground surface is evenly absorbed into the lower soil through the opening of each block and filter cloth. On the other hand, the water behind the slope comes out from the surface of SOLCOMATTM through filter cloth and the opening of blocks. Besides the soil is protected against flowing out with the mesh of filter cloth, which reduces the water pressure inside the soil and prevent slope from collapse. ( Suitable places : Water's edge,Water-front where water level changes, the places with spring water and etc.)

3. Flexibility of the filter cloth

The filter cloth used for SOLCOMAT™ is so flexible that it fit in to the ground with time. ( Suitable places : Erosive Scouring slopes, soft ground at risk from differential settlement and etc.)

4. It can keep vegetation and helping plants regrow

Plants can regrow out of the opening of blocks through the filter cloth. The roots help unite the mat and soil, which secures protection effect. Thick plants also play a roll as protector for erosion by themselves. As a result, beauty of nature can be kept with vegetation unlike conventional concrete block methods. ( Suitable places : Riverbanks, parks, recreational areas and etc.)

5. Fast and Easy installation work

It is manufactured at factory in customized length, and can be installed in a short time using mechanical power (crane). No special technician is necessary to install SOLCOMAT™ . ( Suitable places : Large areas, emergency restoration and etc.)
