Large capacity expansion at China DFR plant

Asahi Kasei EMD is more than doubling capacity at Asahi Kasei Electronics Materials (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., its subsidiary in China for the production of Sunfort™ photosensitive dry film resist (DFR). Upon completion in July 2006, this expansion will raise the Chinese unit's capacity from 80 million m2/year to 180 million m2/year.

Asahi Kasei Electronics Materials (Suzhou) was established in 2002 as Asahi Kasei EMD's second base for the production of Sunfort™ DFR from mother rolls to slit product. With a 90 million m2/year plant in Fuji, Japan, Asahi Kasei EMD's total capacity for Sunfort™ DFR is now 170 million m2/year. The present expansion will raise this to 270 million m2/year. Slitting facilities for Sunfort™ DFR are established at key locations in Taiwan, China, and Korea in addition to Fuji and Suzhou.

DFR is mainly used to form circuit patterns on printed wiring boards used in PCs, cell phones, and automotive electronics. Demand for DFR is growing rapidly, especially in China, where wiring board production is increasingly concentrated. The present 100 million m2/year capacity expansion will enable Asahi Kasei EMD to satisfy the growing demand for Sunfort™ in China, and solidify the company's position as a leading global supplier of DFR.
