Effect of the Great East Japan Earthquake on the Asahi Kasei Group
(2nd announcement)
 
The Asahi Kasei Group expresses its sincere sympathy to all those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake which occurred on March 11, 2011.

We hereby provide an update on our announcement of March 14, 2011, regarding the effect of this earthquake on the Asahi Kasei Group.
 
 
1. Safety of employees
  The safety of all employees of the Asahi Kasei Group in affected areas has been confirmed.
 
2. Effect on production operations
  1) Operation of the following plants is currently suspended, and the degree of damage to facilities is currently under investigation. No forecast for the resumption of operation can be made at this time.
 
   
  • Asahi Kasei Construction Materials Corp. Sakai Plant and Neoma Foam Plant (Ibaraki Prefecture)
  • Asahi Kasei Toko Power Devices Corp. Ishinomaki Plant (Miyagi Prefecture)
  • Asahi Kasei Metals Ltd. Tomobe Plant (Ibaraki Prefecture)
 
  2) The geographic area where Asahi Kasei Homes Corp. operates is limited, with operations in the northern Kanto area including parts of Tochigi Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, and Ibaraki Prefecture. Asahi Kasei Homes does not have any manufacturing facilities in the affected areas. There has been damage to a few construction sites where the earthquake intensity was 6 or higher, but the effect on overall operations is slight.
 
3. Effect of rolling blackouts implemented by Tokyo Electricity Power Company (TEPCO)
  There has been no material impact on our production facilities due to the rolling blackouts implemented by TEPCO. The effect on construction sites of Asahi Kasei Homes Corp., including procurement of supplies, is currently under investigation.

We will make an announcement in the event that any significant impact on our operations is anticipated due to these rolling blackouts.
 
4. Impact on financial performance
  The impact of this earthquake on consolidated financial results of the Asahi Kasei Group is unclear at this time. An announcement will be made promptly in the event that a material impact is anticipated.
