Who
This pioneering company in Japan for black tea was established in 1925 and has been providing quality teas selected from over 160 locations around the world to Japanese consumers. It was the first Japanese company to introduce teabags that preserved the full natural flavor of the tea. Our partner’s teas and teabags are renowned for their high quality, affinity for brewing with Japanese water, and premium taste.
What
Our partner takes great care in the selection of its teas, and the choice of materials for its teabags is just as important. Issues such as the type of material used in the teabag filter paper and the role it plays in preserving and brewing the optimal flavor of the tea are closely studied and original solutions are developed in-house. Cotton-based teabags are an excellent fit for its premium teabag line and fresh black tea teabags, for which Bemliese™ was chosen.
Why Bemliese™?
In addition to its inherent purity, Bemliese™ has excellent extractability, which allows the tea to steep out the maximum flavor in a minimum of time. Compared to regular paper, Bemliese™ has little residual odor that can affect the flavor profile of the tea and hinder full enjoyment. Furthermore, Bemliese™ is completely biodegradable, unlike some paper teabags that contain plastic, thus allowing for environmentally sound disposal.
The Challenge We Welcomed
The teabag packaging machinery produces high vibrations during operation, so our partner had to develop a way to mitigate the vibrations that can affect smooth production. In particular, this made the teabag folding process difficult, and Asahi Kasei worked closely with our partner to optimize the moisture content of Bemliese™ to solve the problem.
